Due to the thickness of the batt and the take-up in tying, your cut size will lose approximately 6 inches in width and length after the comforter is finished. Adjust your measurements accordingly. Finished size will vary due to individual loft characteristics of the wool used. Additional charges: $25.00 each border or mitered corners, or matching a pattern.

Covering wool batts in cheesecloth will make handling of your batts much easier. It also allows you the flexibility of being able to take off your outside quilt cover (duvet) for laundering purposes. Our cheesecloth has a higher thread count than normally available producing a more durable, yet light weight inexpensive covering.

Kings are made of 2(54X90) laid side by side. Do not overlap.

Hand quilting batts offer you the benefits of a natural fiber: “breathability”, moisture absorption, soft hand that quilts like “butter”. We reserve the right to add long fiber to your wool to retain structural quality necessary for such a thin batt.

Some breeds of sheep produce wool that “beards” through the fabric unless it is needle-punched or covered in down-proof ticking. I have found that very fine wools like Merino and coarse wools like Lincoln or Border Leister will beard if using the normal high quality quilting fabrics. So those of you out there that are shepherds and hand quilters and want to use your own wool make note of this fact. Actually the wool from the “meat” breeds make some of the best batting: Hampshire, Suffolk, Shropshire.
